Our private food tour in Kuala Lumpur is for groups of five or more who’d like a guide to themselves. Families, friends and teams travelling together get their own MOTAC-registered local guide for three to four hours, with the pace and the stops planned around your group.
Tours start at 10am, 11am, 3pm or 4pm and include more than 12 tastings at hawker stalls and local eateries, chosen for the quality of their food, their hygiene and their reputation with locals.
How our private food tour in Kuala Lumpur works
When you book, tell us who’s coming, any dietary needs and anything you’re keen to try. If there are more than five of you, get in touch first and we’ll plan it with you.
On the day you’ll have the guide to yourselves, so you can take things slowly, ask as many questions as you like and spend longer chatting with the vendors at the stops you enjoy most. Many of them are long-standing family businesses.
Along the way your guide explains how Malay, Chinese and Indian heritage, migration and trade shaped the food in KL, so you come away knowing why each dish tastes the way it does.

What you might eat
Your exact stops depend on the time you choose, but you’ll usually find dishes such as:
- Roti canai: flaky flatbread with curry for dipping.
- Nasi lemak: rice cooked in coconut milk with sambal and sides, often called Malaysia’s national dish.
- Cendol: shaved ice with palm sugar, coconut milk and green pandan jelly.
