Petaling Street is the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, and one of the best places in the city to see how Malay, Chinese and Indian communities shaped the way Malaysians eat. Our Petaling Street food tour is a small-group walk through the area with a licensed local guide, stopping at long-established hawkers and local eateries along the way.
It runs for three to four hours and includes more than 12 tastings. There are morning starts at 10am and 11am and afternoon starts at 3pm and 4pm, so it’s easy to fit around the rest of your day in KL.
One street, many cultures
The food around Petaling Street tells the story of the city. Migration, trade, colonial history and the spices of the region all left their mark, and many of the dishes you’ll try changed as different communities lived and cooked side by side. Your guide explains this as you go, so each stop adds a little more to the picture.
It’s a shared tour with up to ten guests, which keeps it sociable while still giving everyone time with the guide.

- Nasi lemak: rice cooked in coconut milk with sambal and sides, often called Malaysia’s national dish.
